An Obama?

Does Mexico need an Obama?

Maybe with the title, dear reader, are thinking they come to do a eulogy for Obama. No. What I want is to highlight the need for charismatic figures in Mexico, "role models". And not just in politics but in general. Mexico is faced with the same examples in politics, in sport, in the arts with which is not identified or identifies a downside. Leaders pessimistic, without hope, nagging, other rant, warning bad times, future dark and gray day. Figures that are poorly operated, get shot, which hit other or are struck, making bad jokes to colleagues in order. Figures not inspire us to nothing more than sadness, sorrow, disappointment, pessimism, anger. What leader in Mexico has been able to inspire his audience in recent years? What shape the field of social policy or talked about the possibilities, of opportunities, the need to take this in our hands to face the future? I remember none.

And wonder why my title if Mexico needs an Obama. Remember his campaign in 2008? Their speeches, their words of hope, change and renewal, on a new beginning. With two simple words "Hope and Yes, We Can" managed to lift the gloom and renew hope for many. Where is the Obama that Mexico needs? In those days America was mired in one of his worst moments in history with the war presidency of GW Bush, and received fresh air to the campaign of a young Democrat from Illinois who was not afraid to say yes is can and also it can be otherwise. These words, which catapulted him to the White House and later earned him a "yes, very premature, Nobel Peace Prize, are so from my perspective is badly needed in our country today, full of death, bullets and soldiers.

comparisons can be made between the failed war in Iraq and the failed war on drugs in Mexico. Not only from the point of view of discourse of confrontation, persecution of the "enemy" politics of fear or from the point of view of the number of coffins, but from the point of view of perception and reception of the war on society . American society in 2008 was a society depressed, angry, pessimistic about its future and its possibilities. Obama, beyond ideologies, represented a new beginning, revived the spirits of everyone. Even the most conservative to oppose, to renew their faith, to tell what kind of society, what kind of nation they wanted to be. As revived, they brought Sarah Palin of Alaska to inspire, to encourage them. Women may seem more stupid north pole, but the reality is that Palin has emerged as Obama's nemesis, as the inspirational figure across the political spectrum. And she, in its way, also inspired many.

What happens in Mexico? Where is our Obama and our Palin? Just one year of the presidential campaigns and two presidential election years. I do not see anybody when they come and speak to us, inspire us. We say that these 22mil people and these 4 years of war have indeed been bad, but the future is promising. There is another way of doing things. Unfortunate that we are not the world. You have to put hope in our children and youth. Instead, they make alliances with the teachers union thereby harming education, the Education Department of Health and decide they do not "braid" for our children to stop being obese. Political obstacles are placed to support our children in all areas, what should not be an issue on which all parties and all ideologies should agree? Are they politicized the interests of children and youth? Apparently so as not put a single education reform plan on the table. The President only speaks of wars, deaths, and how mistakes should not be criticized, how Mexicans, all we must put the interests of "the Nation" to our own and shut up.

We have a Government which governs the principle of crime and not the innocent. They kill our children and young people and say we were criminals, that is "deserved." Budgets are reduced in science and technology, as well as schools and universities, and instead increase to buy more guns and more tanks and planes super luxury. The defense secretary says that children and young people killed by the army are collateral damage and the Chairman dare say that 95% of the dead are not important and not so serious the issue, because "only" 5% were civilians. As if Mexicans first and second, as if the Mexicans were willing to sacrifice on behalf of our a war that nobody asked. Even our representatives, rather than represent, are representing themselves and then to the interests of parties who are far from being of the people. The war is a war on our youth, caught between the bullets and blood and not be sold. Between statements and analysis, we found epithets as "neither-nor" that seek to explain why our young people do nothing.

The fact is that there is no leader, no form to be able to stand before an audience that eagerly awaited, which has its future ahead and it looks very black, to tell "Can." None is able to talk to young people and show them that have a bright future, does exist and that "yes we can." The President scolds and justified. Self-absorbed politicians fight each other and tease their hair and their nostrils. Young people in Mexico do not have examples.

So visit and Michelle Obama's speech last Wednesday at the Universidad Iberoamericana did move to these young people from different institutions and different ages. The Michelle Obama speech in the courtyard in front of the UIA rectory able to involve your audience. Something you think our government and our politicians not looking for a long time. Encapsulated in their world, make war against them, youth.

Michelle Obama spoke about the future, about responsibility, about the work and hope. What we need, what to do following examples are large, local and international.

Michelle Obama's speech fell like a holiday to Mexico sad apesumbrado, with a future and a present red blur.

why it's worth a look here. Worth reading and thinking that despite all, the future of Mexico, like all nations, in all ages, is on children and youth and is therefore essential to focus on them: Opportunities and Education (yes, with capital letters) should be the priorities of the Government.

The speech is classically structured. An introductory phase, where it attracts the public, identifies and manages the applause with a phrase "catchy" the body, where is the strong, deliberate and serious that is the content of the speech, which is to say, and concludes with a strong sentence that summarizes and closes the idea.

Michelle Obama opened his speech with the approach of the United States and Mexico, not only because of our shared border, but for the values to which we aspire. Michelle Obama won a English speaking audience to tell what he thought when he should choose the country for his first visit alone "course Mexico, and cast into the bag, spoke earnestly to his audience, this physically and virtually. He spoke about the huge proportion of young people in the world in general and Mexico in particular, and how it is they who will face the challenges of history. Reminded us of the enormous potential due to advances in technology and communication. How today the world is connected from north to south and from east to west. Something "like children, responsibility for the future is in your hands, you have the tools to do it."

The speech was a kind of "inauguration speech" as Michelle Obama noted that his line of international work as first lady will be the inspiration of youth. He talked about how leaders and governments can not alone with the responsibility and how citizens must be involved and share responsibility, warned: this includes young people. And for that we need to open all the doors and give them every opportunity, regardless of their origin, religion, ethnicity, abilities or socioeconomic class, because "the potential can be found in unexpected places."

Michelle Obama talked about the gringa idea of "God Given potential". The importance of equal opportunities for all. Michelle Obama told her story and her husband. How the two separately managed to reach where they wanted. Thanks to the opportunities and work hard and responsibly. "In those days, when we were young, no one could have predicted that one day we would be the president and first lady of the United States."

Michelle gave the patriotic little heart of his audience what we miss having world-class heroes! and that after his story, told us that of Benito Juárez. I put the paragraph in its original language:

And Our Stories Are Not unique. They're the stories of young people in Countless Mexico, in the United States, and around the world who've Worked hard and They've defied the odds. They're the stories of young people who've succeeded THROUGHOUT history Not Because of Their trust fund, or pedigree, or Their test scores, but because of challenges that tested and motivated them and made them who they are, and because someone somewhere believed in them and helped them believe in themselves. When he was orphaned at a young age and sought work as a servant, no one could have imagined that Benito Juarez would one day become one of Mexico ’s greatest presidents. But thanks to a Franciscan friar who helped him join a seminary and get an education, he was able to realize his gifts.

Después habló en los mismos términos sobre Abraham Lincoln, Juana de Arco. En fin, sobre héroes y figuras en la historia que nos muestran que “la perspectiva unusual and unlikely journey has been the key to progress. " And he said, but "do not think you did and for having opportunities. They have to help others, who did not or do not have the same opportunities as you. It is also solidarity and responsibility. " Michelle Obama reminded his audience at the Ibero that: "To whom much is given, much is expected of him."

followed with three examples. "Imagine what would happen if Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa had been a selfish, have been concerned only with their interests, the story would be very different." - Michelle gave recognition to three Mexicans who have dedicated themselves to help and give opportunities to others. Alberto Salvador, Mariana Vazquez del Mercado and Alberto Irezabal.

then spoke about the lack of confidence and security of some young people who have not had opportunities or situations of privilege to forge a brighter future. Again, Michelle Obama told her story, how she eventually felt unsafe to continue and build on their opportunities. In the end it says "all you have to do is believe in yourself. If you refuse to give up everything, then you will see that there is nothing you can not accomplish. "

followed with one of the slogans of the campaign of Barack Obama: Hope. He said he has hope for a better, more fair, where everyone has the same opportunities and treated equally. Then came many other words that inspired " I hope you think young people two centuries ago risked everything for the independence of Mexico . I hope you think about young people in America who fought to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their gender or skin color, they were treated equally before the law. You, like me, are here because of them. "

After reading an email from a social worker in Port au Prince, Haiti who spoke about their hope to recover the island, Michelle Obama finished strong:

"I hope each of you, and young people throughout the world, take responsibility for that work, work to help others in need, work to build strong nations and a better world, because if we face the challenges of our time, if we are to make our world a safer and healthier, more prosperous and more free, we will need passion and courage and creativity of each one of you.

We will need to work as hard as possible and make as much as possible, driven by the conviction that has always characterized the spirit of youth. --- Three simple words. Si, se puede. "

The" can do ", was delivered in English. The speech was round. Michelle Obama hailed as Rock Star ended with an audience moved, energized and hopeful at the rate of the rock band Muse was heard from the speakers at the University of bricks. As Barack Obama made in 2008, not only with their potential voters, but in the world.

anyone to fill this empty void in Mexico? Proposals will be accepted.
