Human rights focus on Internet Day 2011
The celebration aims to promote reflection on the network through more than 400 events in various countries
BARCELONA (Editorial / Agencies) .- Human rights in the new hyper-connected to the network society is one of the cornerstones on which gravitates Internet Day 2011. Internet Day (abbreviated motto World Telecommunication Day and Society Information) has its roots in a English initiative of the Association of Internet users that the United Nations recognized in 2006, setting May 17 as the date of its annual celebration.
The celebration has its own website, which explains that the Internet Day is "a date which seeks to highlight the possibilities offered by new technologies to improve the standard of living of peoples and citizens ".
The event celebrates and recognizes technological changes with the emergence and development of the network. The celebration of this day is sponsored by the Association of users Internet and committees momentum has spread over several countries, through the coordination of activities to commemorate the importance of the Internet and new technologies in society.
Among the activities planned for the Day of the Internet is the delivery in the English Senate of the Internet Awards 2011. These awards were sponsored by the Committee to Promote Internet Day in Spain.
